Dia de los Muertos
This project required me to write about someone in the past tense. I chose to do this on my dad. We also had to do some artwork for this project. Here is my writing:
Reflection: I learned a lot about past tense writing, primarily the conjugation. I altered my project from a Dia de Los Muertos project to just a past tense writing because I was not comfortable with the original project. A big thing I learned is about time management, because I was struggling with my writing, I spent a bit too much time on that, and not enough on my art piece. This has been a learning experience for me, because my grade on the art piece suffered greatly because of this.
Spanish Journalism Project
This project required the students to study the current events of a specific country, and create one of two things: a newspaper or a newscast video. To start, we did a lot of independent work and research to find one specific current event. The next portion of the project was done as a group. I choose to do a video new broadcast, so I was put in a group with people who had the same country of research and wanted to do a video for the project. We then created a newscast video combining all of our independent research.
I connected to this project more at some times than others. I really enjoyed learning a little bit about trending topics in foreign countries, in my case, Costa Rica. It was really cool how we pieced our project together also. We had a commercial, the current events, and a sports section. My best moment was when I was writing the commercial, that was fairly simple to me.
This project was pretty difficult for me. I tend to have a hard time speaking in spanish, and there was a lot of speaking in this project. I did make my commercial as easy to speak as I could, but I didn’t end up doing my commercial. We switched around our parts to make it easier for the group as a whole, so I ended up doing a very long current events article and struggled the whole way through it. I didn’t have any more time to re record, so I just had to keep it.
I learned that I will probably never be very fluent in spanish. I did learn that I am a good leader and problem solver however. These are things that I already knew about myself, but I also learned that I can be successful even in situation where I am not super comfortable, and that is something I was not sure about. I also I am good collaborator, so I feel like I did this well in our group also.
This project really helped me to see what kind of language the countries that speak spanish dominantly use. I also learned how hard it really is to learn a second language, so I give a lot more credit to people who are bilingual now than I did before. This knowledge is valuable to me because I also know a little bit about what is going on around the world. This project gave us an ability to learn about a country and continue learning about spanish, all while doing so with a topic of interest to us. This project was pretty cool.
